The Perfect Murder

Spring 2014

There are enough twists and turns in the plot to keep you guessing until the end and there were plenty of chuckles on the opening night, with some of the darker moments of comedy drawing gasps from the audience.

Shaun McKenna’s adaptation of Peter James’s novel, The Perfect Murder is perfectly cast, perfectly pitched between thriller and black comedy, and perfectly gripping for its two hours duration.

What's On Bath

Claire Goose is magnificent, giving a rounded performance as the bitchy frustrated wife and playful lover, sliding into jumpy edginess and fear.

Alternate gasps of surprise and roars of laughter ... could be heard all around.  The juxtaposition of comedy... and the more sinister plot, as the murder story unravelled, provided a great mix of reaction.

A blooming good night out.

Norwich Evening News

Les Dennis is shifting his career ... onto the stage and making a success of it; his opening of the play reclining on a shabby bed, clad in vest and baggy boxers, speaking of his plans for murder, nails the character at the start.

What's On Bath

Gray O’Brien is a lot of fun as Joan’s hunky handyman love interest Don... while Simona Armstrong is very good indeed as the tart with a heart...

Peter James fans will be most interested to see the introduction in the play of Roy Grace, the detective hero of a number of his Brighton-based bestsellers, and Steven Miller plays the part to perfection. He is superb as Grace...

The Perfect Murder is undeniably good fun, with some great lines, and the stage version is probably even more Roald Dahl-esque than the short story.

West Sussex County Times

The packed house was admirably entertained alternately between side splitting dark adult humour of the ins and outs of marriage and the thrilling suspense of what to do about it.
